The A370 Path is Clear Again

The A370 path is clear again! As regular readers will be aware BOB has been asking North Somerset Council (NSC) for many years to maintain the A370 path to ensure that people have safe use of it to and from Bleadon and Weston, hopefully people will no longer feel the need to walk, or ride their mobility scooters, in the dangerous 60mph A370 roadway. The path clearance has also greatly improved the visibility and safety when exiting Facum/Fakenham Lane too.

Thank you to District Councillor Solomon for his recent help in progressing this problem, the resident who sent in photos during the clearance work and NSC for carrying out the work.

For the paths continued safe use BOB has also asked that this clearance is included on NSC's contractors schedule to maintain it regularly.

Unfortunately, the clearing of the path has exposed the extent of litter that has accumulated alongside the path and in the rhynes, which also need regular maintenance to help prevent local flooding, an ongoing topic in our community. It will be interesting to see how NSC will address general path and rhyne maintenance in its 'Rewilding North Somerset initiative'.

It will also be interesting to hear whether Bleadon Parish Council (BPC) has highlighted these ongoing problems in their local initiatives such as BPC's award winning 'Bleadon in Bloom' and 'plastic free Bleadon' initiatives. As stated by the BPC Chairman in the Autumn 2019 Village Newsletter,

"The council agreed to be 'plastic free' and 'frack free' - clearly, just saying it doesn't make it happen and so we will be working closely with everyone to make changes over time'.

How BPC intends to encourage and ensure NSC, contractors, landowners and residents fulfil their duties and responsibilities to keep our community safe is yet to be revealed.
