Bleadon Election Results are in - 5 of the existing 8 councillors stand down! As of May 23 there will be 5 elected councillors with 4 spaces left on the council, available for possible co-option.
As only 5 of a possible 9 people stood for election, they will be automatically elected as Bleadon councillors, via an uncontested election, and so residents will not be going to the ballot box.
Residents don’t yet know why the majority of existing councillors decided not to stand for re-election, nothing was said at BPC's unexpected 05 April 23 BPC extraordinary meeting, last week. Perhaps it was due to resident scrutiny, and the External Auditor’s imminent report on BPC’s Governance & Accounts (AGAR)? Perhaps it was the resignation of BPC’s clerk/RFO in January, or the newsletter editor in March? Or perhaps it was just too frustrating being a parish councillor and having to listen to and accommodate residents’ views? Perhaps this is all just a coincidence?
Maybe this year’s scheduled residents’ Annual Parish Meeting, which was recently postponed but due before 01 June, will reveal all….
In the meantime, in the absence of BPC publishing any draft minutes from last year, here are BOB’s draft notes on last year’s residents meeting.
